About Us
Hi, my name is Ashaana Baijnath and I am the founder of Umusa Packaging now known as Flowers on Chartwell. My interest in flowers sparked at the age of 7. My dad worked for a local nature reserve and I would often visit him at work. He was invited to many schools and events demonstrating how to plant trees and to take care of them. I remember the day he had come to my school, I was so thrilled that my dad was there hosting. Looking at all the interested faces made me feel super happy and proud.
I lost touch with the beauty of nature as I grew older, as most of us do, however, I never fully forgot about it. After I finished school I studied for a while but I then decided I needed a change. I dove into the pool of employment and oh boy, it certainly was no walk in the park.
I tried my hand at different occupations. I slowly realized that I cannot work at a job I’m not completely passionate about for the rest of my life.
I tirelessly began researching how to start a business and the resources it would require to start up. I delved into the formulation, e-commerce, design and basically everything related to the industry I was interested in.
I had initially started out with corporate and personal gifts. At the time I had a limited inventory which I used to get our name out there. I attended a business seminar where I landed my first big order with Old Mutual. I slowly grew my platform thereafter by cold calling all my orders to reach more companies. social media played a huge role in growing my business. Who would have thought a simple like, share or comment on different social media sites could make such a big impact?
Making these beautiful gifts was amazing but it felt like there was something missing. That’s where my love of nature crept back in. I mean, a bouquet of flowers finishes off any gift, right? I then took some classes and began researching anything and everything related to becoming a florist. Things slowly set in motion and here we are now.
We now have 6 staff members at Flowers on Chartwell. Our end goal is to put a smile on anyone receiving our products. Each bouquet is handmade and every gift is put together with the utmost care and attention to detail. Seeing you happy makes us happy.
My hope and goal is to grow Flowers on Chartwell nationwide without compromising on our quality. I am so grateful to my family, friends and every customer for being a part of my journey.
